Can Efficiency Lower the Cost of Health Insurance?
Half a dozen health care trade groups are meeting at the White House today to make a proposal which would possibly trim the cost of health care by 1.5% each year by using new efficiencies. This would save a projected $2 trillion over the next decade and would have a significant impact on the federal budget. Federal officials are hoping that in as few as five years, the cost of family health insurance coverage will go down by $2,500 annually. They go further to say that within ten years, the savings could eliminate the national budget deficit. However, as grand as these savings sound, the details of the proposal remain unclear. Do you think any of these predictions are possible?
