Children and Insurance
According to a study released by Families USA, the rate of unsinsured children has actually gone down this year by about 6%. The findings are attributed to government programs such as Medicaid and the State Children’s Health Insurance Program. Massachussetts had the lowest rate of children without insurance, while states including Florida, Georgia, Texas, California, and New York were among the highest. Suprisingly, one third of the children without insurance live in homes with at least one adult working a full time job. This would suggest that employer based health insurance is in need of reform. How do you think the proposed overhaul of the health care system will affect children in the US?
