Crist Optimistic About Stimulus Package
Now that Obama has officially signed the bill providing for the nation’s stimulus package, Florida Governor Charlie Crist is optimistic about the benefits Florida will reap as a result. Roughly $12 billion is slated to come to Florida to save and create thousands of jobs, support public programs such as Medicaid, increase unemployment benefits, provide tax cuts and credits to working families, and boost health and educational programs. Crist was all but banking on the stimulus coming to pass, and based his 2009 budget around the infusion of funds. While experts still fear that it won’t solve Florida’s problems, Crist is hopeful that it will make for dramatic improvements. How much of a positive impact do you think the stimulus package will be to health care and other areas in Florida?

I think it should help, but will not solve the problem. We should not have planned our budget around something that we weren’t sure was going to pass. It seems we should find other ways to improve our health care rather than just through federal funding.

If Crist is hopeful I am hopeful. He’ll simply have to define dramatic in detail before one can comment. Same goes for “how much of a positive impact”.

If Crist is involved in improving health care with money from the stimulus then we may as well give up. This guy has no clue what he is doing. All he is is a pretty face. Hasn’t anyone read about the failure of Cover Florida?

This may have some short term positive results, but we need to look at this long term. What we are doing is opening up the floodgates to spending. We are borrowing and borrowing to support our “habit”. Someone has to pay. We are forcing our children to pay for our greed. We need to cut government spending and reduce its size dramatically. It is government that caused these problems. Have you heard the statement that should give you nightmares? “I’m from the government and I am here to help”.
