Enrollment Period Brings More Stress Than Relief

In Northeast Florida, its enrollment time again. A time when employees can be added to their company’s health plan and have to make choices in their coverage and weigh and balance the cost of premium against the benefits of coverage. It is not a stress-free experience. Workers are facing much higher premiums for less coverage than in previous years, making the process a lot more daunting and somewhat depressing. Some Florida employers, however, are combating this with giving their employees more information and more choices. Some people are able to take advantage of health savings accounts, which many companies are encouraging the use of, which gives employees the ability to shop around. There seems to be a shift from the standard employer provided coverage, to a situation where employees are encouraged to become informed consumers and more involved in their health care decisions. Do you think this is a good direction for Florida to move in?
