Enrollment period ends for kids’ individual health plans

Parents have until March 1 to take advantage of the open enrollment period to buy individual health insurance for children, which is particularly important for youngsters with pre-existing conditions.

Under federal and state laws passed last year, children with pre-existing conditions canâ??t be denied coverage.

But state law only limits the amount that policies can charge if they are bought during the enrollment period ending March 1 or during the childâ??s birthday month. During those periods, health plans canâ??t charge children with pre-existing conditions more than double the rate paid by healthy children.
