Florida Needs Federal Intervention with Medicaid
The Medicaid program in Florida is being pushed to its limits as a record number of needy citizens are qualified to enroll for assistance. Medicaid offers health care coverage to those who are unable to get coverage through other means, including those who are unemployed. As the ranks of the unemployed swells, so does participation in this program. Typically, states are matched with funds from the federal government. Unfortunately, Florida spent a large amount of funds rebuilding after hurricane activity, which depleted the funds available for assisting the needy. Florida is hoping for a stimulus package which would help alleviate this problem, but many are also asking for the federal government to contribute more toward the standard match. Do you think Florida will receive the money it needs to help alleviate the massive problem of uninsured citizens the state is currently facing?
