Group Health Insurance

A worker insurance committee will be transfer the message to the Joplin City Council that city workers are willing to pay extra for group health insurance in exchange for keeping similar benefit levels.

Thatâ??s the proposal the committee is making for next yearâ??s health coverage under a self-funded diagram the committee has chosen to employ, said the cityâ??s finance director, Leslie Jones.

Jones said, In order to help out with increased insurance expenses, â??The insurance committee is recommending that the worker share go up over a phased-in time periodâ?.

Expenses and options for providing group health insurance to city workers will be discussed through a City Council work session at 6:30 p.m. Tuesday at City Hall.

In adding up, the council will think whether to grant pay raises for city employees. City Manager Mark Rohr recommends raises of 2.5 percent across the board, which would price about $300,000. He recommends that the raises be complete effectual when the new budget year starts in Nov.
