Health Care System Does Not Work for the Sick

For Christine Franklin, battling breast cancer has proven to be not only an emotional and phsyical challenge, but largely a financial one. Despite her insurance coverage, Franklin has amassed a suprisingly high amount of out of pocket expenses for treatments and medications. This is on top of her premiums and deductibles which she pays to keep the insurance she still feels fortunate to have. Franklin’s illness has cost her a job, and the expenses she has accumulated have forced her to sell her home. A study done by the Kaiser Family Foundation shows that a suprising 70 percent of people diagnosed with cancer have private insurance and face huge premiums and astronomical out of pocket expenses. Why is it that health insurance does not work for the sick, those who actually need it?
