Health Insurance Provider Avoids Prosecution
Tampa, FL based WellCare will avoid prosecution by paying $80 million in restitution for its charge of Medicaid fraud. WellCare is Florida’s largest Medicaid managed care provider and was recently accused of being involved in a plot to defraud Medicaid and the Florida Healthy Kids Corporation out of approximately $40 million. While attorneys are confident in a conviction, the decision was made that putting the provider out of business would harm many Floridians who depend on the coverage as well as hurting the many employees who had nothing to do with the fraudulent activity. Do you agree with the decision to punish the company without destroying it? Give us your opinion in the health insurance forum.
