Lee County in Favor of Tobacco Tax
Lee County Florida citizens gathered for a press conference recently in an unlikely, but appropriate place to discuss the future of health insurance. Participants came together in a children’s play ground, with the backdrop of children playing to discuss the impact of Florida’s proposed tax increase on tobacco products. The revenue from the tax will not only help fund health insurance for the millions who cannot afford it, children included, but will also help offset the cost to treat the people who already suffer tobacco related illness. Equally if not more importantly, lawmakers hope that the steep increase in price will stop many young people from becoming addicted to nicotine in the first place. Do you think that would be the case?
