Medicaid Enrollment on the Rise
Lee County Florida is currently the leader in Medicaid as it has seen more than a 25% increase in the number of people who qualify for the program. According to the Department of Children and Families, that is double the average for the state on the whole. The problem is that the budget is not prepared for this type of increase, as well as the fact that many physicians won’t accept the plans due to the low rates of reimbursement. This leaves many people covered but unable to see a doctor. This will naturally lead to an increase in emergency room usage and a heavier burden on hospitals and their budgets. What is the point of offering coverage to those in need if that coverage will not even provide them access to a doctor?
