Medicare Overhaul Can’t Wait
Medicare has already been shown to be unsustainable, prompting talks of reforming the program amidst other changes in the national healthcare system. The timing of such reforms has remained in question, however experts are pointing to the influx of the largest group of enrollees to hit the program which will occur in 2011 when the baby boomer generation becomes eligible. A financial statement from the Mayo clinic would support the argument that the system is in desperate need of reform sooner rather than later. The health care giant barely managed to break even last year, pointing toward lower reminbursement rates from Medicare versus private insurance. If Mayo is the gold standard for health care in the industry and they can barely break even, what does that mean for all the other providers who are much smaller? Will a change in the structure of our health insurance system be the answer?
