South Florida Health Coverage is Suffering from Recession
Agencies which provide support and assistance to the uninsured in South Florida are being overwhelmed with calls for help as the deepening recession causes more people to loose their jobs and therefore their health insurance. A recent report shows that now over 50% of unemployed South Floridians are now without health insurance, and they are desperate for a solution. COBRA often prooves cost prohibitive, as it can eat up a large percentage of unemployment benefits. COBRA can also be difficult to deal with, as one resident found out when she was short by a matter of cents on a month’s premium and found her coverage cancelled. With so many Floridians losing coverage, what will be the long term impact of this situation?
