State Workers are Not Suffering in Depression
Despite Florida Governor Charlie Crist’s insistence that he will do everything he can to help Floridians get through this time of crisis, including heavily promoting his Cover Florida Plans, the Governor has decided against decreasing the health insurance benefits earned by many of the workers in his office and state legislators and their employees. These health benefits, provided at no cost to the employees, are largely subsidized by heavy taxation of the “hurting” Florida population. Crist defends his actions by arguing that these workers make substantially less than they would in the private sector, and having full health benefits is one of the perks. Others say that these workers should have to contribute the same amount toward their health care as the majority of state workers do, which could save Florida tax payers as much as $44 million.
