University to Make Health Insurance Mandatory
The home of the Florida Gators may soon be making health insurance mandatory for all of its students. The University of Florida in Gainesville is considering mandatory health insurance as a way to protect its students and ensure that they have access to medical care to help support their academic preformance. There is currently a large variation in student coverage. Many are still protected by their parent’s insurance, others have coverage through a private policy, and many more have no health coverage to speak of. The mandate would prevent students from being able to enroll in classes without showing proof of medical insurance coverage. Accidents and injuries are prevalent among students of this age, and school officials see this as a way to prevent financial hardship to both the students and their families, as well as insuring that students can continue with their schooling. Do you agree with these ideas? Do you think more universities will adopt this practice?
