W2W Helps Women Survive Breast Cancer in South Florida
For Floridian Sandra King, 44 years old and no insurance, finding out she had breast cancer could have spelled a death sentence. However through her and her daughter’s perserverence, she managed to receive a diagnosis and treatment and survive the deadly affliction. She shared her story recently at a luncheon hosted by W2W, a group which helps women with early detection and treatment. The foundation feels that early detection is the most important key to surviving the disease, as many women do not find out until they are in the late stages, when it has possibly spread to other parts of the body. They also offer free prescription programs, as the most commonly used drug can cost roughly $150 for a month’s supply, as well as co-pay programs. They feel that no woman should be unable to receive the care she requires to defeat the disease. How will foundations like this change as the nature of our health care system changes? Will these types of foundations always be necessary to the community?
