It has been shown that in the individual insurance marketplace, women pay significantly higher premiums than their male counterparts, even when they are the exact same age, health rating, and when maternity coverage is excluded. Insurance companies explain that the reason for this is due to the fact that women use their insurance more often, seeking routine and preventative care much more frequently than men. Florida lawmakers are working to elminate this bias and make it illegal for companies to charge more for women than for men, as some other states currently do. It is illegal for race to be a determinant in premium calculation, so do you think its fair that women should be charged more than men?
